Catlin Artic Survey

Here is an Adventure that will be  slow, cold and honest.

For a better description from Catlin Artic Survey. "The Ice Team members have all reached the North Pole before, so this project is not about getting to the Pole, but rather about securing relevant scientific data. The choice of route has been dictated by the need to obtain the maximum amount of data possible along a scientifically relevant transect. The North Geographic Pole was the natural end point. The team will be travelling on foot, hauling sledges from 81°N 130°W, across 1,000-km of disintegrating and shifting sea ice, for around 100 days, in temperatures from 0ºC down to -50°C."

What is really engaging is the Live Feed complete with Biotelemetry, you monitor  these three researchers vital signs.

It is a Natural Progression from the Vendee Globe Adventure,

This time instead of 30 it is 3 helping each other on a frozen aquatic environment.

Balance

Saturday, March 28, 2009

You are reading from the book

The Language of Letting Go

Balance

Seek balance.

Balance emotions with reason.

Combine detachment with doing our part.

Balance giving with receiving.

Alternate work with play, business with personal activities.

Balance tending to our spiritual needs with tending to our other needs.

Juggle responsibilities to others with responsibilities to ourselves.

Balance caring about others with caring about ourselves.

Whenever possible, let's be good to others, but be good to ourselves too.

Some of us have to make up for lost time.

Today, I will strive for balance.

Open for Questions

"The initial run of Open for Questions came to a close with the President’s online town hall this morning. With almost a hundred thousand participants and more than three and a half million votes, it was an eye-opening experience and showed the potential of what this kind of open engagement can accomplish. The online town hall had an amazing feel of something that had never been done before, and something we should be trying to do more of. If you missed it, watch the video of the entire event:"

Sunday Play

Watching Molly & Nycki play
is like seeing my thoughts
back n' forth with my reflections
round n' round about my readings
There's laundry to be done
Never heard of Nehemiah!
Finally after 2500 years am glad
someone else told who told someone
who wrote it down who translated it
who assigned it for bible study
who discussed it this morning
which applies as much today
as it it did then
Then
Al Franken 'nd Truth
am I the only one who agrees?
or sees?!
Nycki sneezes, "God bless you"
there are thistle in the backyard
dust on the dining room floor
dishes in the sink
The ministers message makes sense
one more week will the phone still be on?
this is our time we are the adults now!
errr, ha, ha, ha

Sears Tower will still be Sears

Comiskey Park is still Comiskey or Sox Park to me not "the Cell"

Playboy was Palmolive but Playboy is better even though the neon sign says ESSEX.

Wrigley Building or Wrigley Field, Cubs Park (The Friendly Confines) will be Wrigley Building or Wrigley Field, Cubs Park (The Friendly Confines)

Sears Tower will not be Willis Tower it will still be Sears

Stroger Hospital of Cook County is still called Cook County Hospital or just County Hospital or simply County or plain ole' Cook. Sometimes Stroger.

An attempt to rename Cook County Jail came to no avail. We Call it County Jail not Sheriff Someone's Department of Corrections of Cook County.

There are those who call Macy's, Fields or Marshall Field's still full with Frango mint memories.

My Free advise to Willis Holding Group is Spend/Invest Marketing/Advertising/Name Change Dollars Wiser.
To Insure Willis Image create a Civic Portfolio of Philanthropy or Charity to choose from.

Nowruz

From Wikipedia

Nowrūz Persian نوروز / Kurdish نه‌ورۆز / Turkish Nevruz; with various local pronunciations and spellings, meaning 'New Day') is the traditional new year holiday celebrated byIranian peoples, having its roots in Ancient Iran. Apart from the Iranian cultural continent(Greater Iran), the celebration has spread in many other parts of the world, including parts of Central AsiaSouth AsiaNorthwestern China, the Crimea, and some ethnic groups inAlbaniaBosniaKosovo and the Republic of Macedonia.

Nowruz marks the first day of spring and the beginning of the Iranian year and is a secular holiday. It is celebrated on the day of the astronomical vernal equinox, which usually occurs on March 21 or the previous/following day depending on where it is observed. As well as being a Zoroastrian holiday and having significance amongst the Zoroastrian ancestors of modern Iranians. According to Encyclopedia Britannica, the Jewish festival of Purim, is probably adopted from the Persian New Year. [1] It is also a holy day for Ismailis, Alawites,[2] Alevis, and adherents of the Bahá'í Faith.[3]

The term Nowruz first appeared in Persian records in the second century AD, but it was also an important day during the time of the Achaemenids (c. 648-330 BC), where kings from different nations under the Persian empire used to bring gifts to the emperor (Shahanshah) of Persia on Nowruz.[4] Full ARTICLE

We are collecting digital responses to simple daily questions and
then will use everyones' answers to create an exhibit later this month.

Please check out http://addingpositivity.org

You can answer lots of questions on one day by clicking the '+' sign
to skip a question or find one or more you feel like answering.
Or you can come back daily and answer just one question each day.
It is anonymous, we only collect your home country and current location

Brain Architecture

From MIT

About the Lecture

"In this lecture Elly Nedivi provides an overview on the basics of brain anatomy, working her way up the spinal column to the deepest recesses of the cerebral cortex. Using vivid slides, we learn that physically distinguishable areas of the brain are responsible for specific functions, and that you can, for instance, build maps of the cortical areas dealing with each of the senses. Nedivi explains precisely why there is a safety zone in the spine for an epidural, and also show images of the earliest stages of embryonic brain development. While there are still deep mysteries hidden inside the human brain, Nedivi sheds light on the fascinating things that are known about this very complex human organ."

“The way the brain works is so fast and immediate…it’s hard to imagine some computer getting all that information in such a short time and making such a quick response in judgment.”

Yes, you are ready

"There is no limit to the number of ways in which you can create real value. Breathe deeply, smile lovingly, and just do it.

The moment you're in is plenty. The place where you are is an ideal place from which to move forward.

Instead of punishing yourself with regret, delight yourself with the possibilities. Get busy creating and living a beautiful now.

Yes, you are ready to be your best. Let go of the doubts and let it happen.

You can create your very own future, and you are doing so even now. Take this opportunity to fill it with what you know to be good and valuable and meaningful.

There is immense beauty in you that you have not yet seen. Share it with the world and live the joy of discovery as that beauty continues to unfold."

"Professor Bloom opens with a brief discussion of the value and evolutionary basis of unconscious processing. The rest of this lecture introduces students to the theory of Behaviorism, particularly the work of prominent behaviorist, B. F. Skinner. Different types of learning are discussed in detail, as well as reasons why behaviorism has been largely displaced as an adequate theory of human mental life."
